Tax holidays : relief or gimmick?

In the last quarter of a century, the phenomenon of tax holidays has rapidly spread over the United States. In this article, the author presents a short overview of the scope and rationale of sales tax holidays, an assessment of whether or not they deliver what they promise and, finally, an evaluation of that type of tax relief from the perspective of tax policy.
