After experiencing rapid rates of economic growth over a prolonged period, the South-east Asian countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) have been undergoing a severe economic crisis since the devaluation of the Thai Baht on 2 July 1997. This paper analyses the implications of the crisis for tax systems and tax reform strategies in South-east Asia.
