Immovable property and VAT - lessons from past experience

In this article, the authors describe the features of the VAT regime for immovable property, present an overview of the VAT regimes applicable to immovable property in several recently acceded Member States and make a comparison of the VAT burden on owned and let business premises. Finally, they suggest that the EU Council should aim for further harmonization and learn a lesson from past experience.
