US Announces Immediate 25% Tariff on Countries Doing Business with Iran
The United States has announced a 25% tariff on "any [c]ountry doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran", according to a statement by President Donald Trump published on Truth Social on 12 January 2026. No formal executive order or detailed implementation guidance has yet been released.
The measure, described by President Trump as "effective immediately" and "final and conclusive", signals a unilateral US effort to pressure third countries through trade measures and could affect major US trading partners.
The IBFD will continue to monitor developments and report on any formal measures or guidance issued in connection with the announced tariff.
